Who is responsible
MQ BOOKS decides how the personal information described here is used, and is responsible for looking after it.
What we collect
When you buy
- Your name and email address.
- Your delivery address, if your order contains a physical book.
- What you ordered, when, and what you paid.
- Where you got to in a book you are reading or listening to, so it opens in the same place on your other devices.
When you sell
- Your seller profile: name, photo, biography, nationality and phone number.
- Payout details, so you can be paid.
- Your listings and your sales.
Whatever you send us
- Messages through the contact and enquiry forms.
- Your email address if you ask for a free sample or join the mailing list.
Automatically
- Ordinary technical logs: IP address, browser, pages requested, and errors. These keep the site secure and working.
We never see your card details. Card and bank information is entered directly into Stripe or PayPal and is handled by them. It does not pass through this site and we do not store it.
Why we use it
- To complete your order — because we cannot deliver a book without it.
- To run the marketplace — accounts, security, fraud prevention, support, and keeping records the law requires.
- To send you email you asked for — samples and the mailing list, with consent, and you can unsubscribe from any of it at any time.
Who else sees it
- The seller you bought from. For a physical book they receive your name and delivery address, because they are the one posting it. For a digital book they see the sale, not your address.
- Stripe and PayPal — to take payment and pay sellers.
- Our email provider — to send receipts, download links and notifications.
- Our hosting and file storage providers — to run the site and hold uploaded files.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for anybody else's advertising.
Cookies and what is kept in your browser
We use a cookie to keep you signed in, and your browser stores small amounts of data such as your cart. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Where it is held
The site, its database and its files are hosted with providers who may store or process data outside Australia, including in the United States. Where information leaves the country, we rely on the safeguards those providers have in place.
How long we keep it
- Account and profile information: while your account is open.
- Orders, invoices and payment records: for as long as tax and accounting law requires, typically several years, even after an account is closed.
- Marketing consent: until you withdraw it.
- Technical logs: a short period, then discarded.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you what we hold, correct it, delete it, or stop using it for a particular purpose. You can close your account yourself from account settings. To ask for anything else, contact us through the contact form on the site and we will respond within a reasonable time. If you are unhappy with how we have handled it, you can complain to the privacy regulator in your country.
Children
This site is not intended for children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16, and we remove it if we find we have.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we will tell account holders. The date at the top always shows the current version.
